The BBLS, Receiver, Wood Hand Guard & Hand Guard Metal All Are The Same Serial Number. Indeed it is (did some more reading) a 'Crass' Model and from the SN does appear in the 1901 range of serial numbers. Jolly Bill, Thanks for the information Sir. Hopefully, someone else may offer some thoughts. Proceed with caution if you find any marked this way. If owned by Wells Fargo & Co., the gun would probably be marked but often someone else will mark guns 'WF & CO' and try to pass them off as original. I suspect someone in the past cut the barrels back to 18 3/16'. If the barrels and the rest of the gun is sound, shoot only light field loads, and carefullly. Any shorter and the BATFE might not like it.ДЄlso, the minimum overall legal size for a shotgun is 28' I believe. 18 inch barrels are the minimum legal length for shotgun barrels. The number 1 grade was the lowest grade they made at that time.ДЄ Krupp Steel barrel could be correct because Ithaca and other US makers started using Krupp Steel barrels around that time. The number '2' over the '12' indicate the gun is a number 2 grade in 12 gauge. Reason I say this is most of the Ithaca doubles made around 1901 had damascus or twist stell barrels.

Does the serial number on the barrel have the same number as on the receiver? You say all #'s match so I guess they do. The Lewis model has some better features, ie, coil springs, etc. Rebel, With that serial number, I suspect your Ithaca double could be a Crass model or the later Lewis model. Is this a cut-down version which was done after it left the factory or could it be similar to a Wells-Fargo or Guard Shotgun? It's a mean looking Home Defense Weapon!!! Also, I am wondering if it is a 2 1/2' or maybe a 2 9/16' chamber instead of a 2 3/4' chamber. The BBL'S seem 'factroy' as the front of them are lead filled as they should be. The BBLS are but 18 3/16' in length and has a brass front bead sight.ДЇrom what I have gathered, it was made in 1901 but I can not find a reference to this shotgun in a 'short barrel' in my search.

Serial Number 73XXX (all parts matching numbers), on the top of the barrels it reads 'Krupp Fluid Steel', undernieith reads 'Fluid Steel - Krupp Essen (?), Under the BBLS on the receiver is 2 over 12 (frame size and gauge)? Anyway, I did not find it under the New Ithaca Gun but under Crass & NIG Models the serial number is 41268 below that is A and then below that is 10. I thought it was a 12 gauge but it seems it is a 10 gauge instead. It utilizes a novel combination ejection/loading port on the bottom of the gun which leaves the sides closed to the elements. The Ithaca 37 is a pump-action shotgun made in large numbers for the civilian, military, and police markets.

I don't think ithaca made 371,000,000 total, much less one model. But one thing, are you sure about your serial number? It seems on the high side. Might be able to find something close on there.

I finally figured out how to find the actual serial numbers and then went to check and see what I actually had. That is what it says on the side of the receiver. I am a new guy on this board and I saw your posting for Ithaca Serial Numbers and went to the site because I have an OLD 'New Ithaca Gun'. Serial number 461986, with matching numbers on.

Side double barrel shotgun by Ithaca gun. What is the value of an Ithaca double barrel shotgun serial. Maybe a forum header about model variations or links to the information would be helpful. For somebody just looking for a shotgun it isn't going to matter.ДЇor somebody looking to collect it is. But if I'm looking at an older Ithaca model 37, how would I find out if it's in original configuration (as shipped from the factory). Where would I look or who would I contact? Knowing that Ithaca made X number of model37's in a given year is very helpful. If I wanted to do an in depth search of models, other than just the year of manufacture.
